What do near-death experiences mean, and why do they fascinate us?

Gregg Nome is both a psychiatrist and a scientist, that focuses on the subject of Near Death Experiences. When he was 24 years old, he begun to drown and his body was pummeling against the sandy riverbed. Suddenly, he started to have visions of his childhood and even tho he was dying, he was in a very peaceful state of mind. His patients that also had a NDE, describe it as feeling of bliss. They often see their dead and beloved family members and some people say that they saw God or Allah. Some scientist think that it might be just REM but when having a REM people describe it as a feeling of danger, NDE is described as something dream-like. We have no evidence that life after death exists, but we also don't have evidence that it does not exists.

I think that life after death might exists. I read some articles about NDE and some of the people say, that they have left the body. They saw what was happening around them and after coming back to life, they could recall true things happening when their heart stopped for example: what tools were the doctors using while the surgery or what their family members were saying in different rooms. They describe it as if they were everywhere at one time. We might also think that all of this might happen, because oxygen does not get to your brain but the studies have shown, that when our brain doesn't get enough amount of oxygen, we begin to feel terrified and worried. People who experienced NED, describe it as something peaceful and blissful. So I think, that NDE is something really interesting and might be true.

  1. It is also possible to experience the out-of-body sensation when we meditate, not to mention the effect of some psychoactive substances.
