Why is it so hard to talk about sex?

Communication with your partner about sexual intercourses is one of the most crucial factor for safe and satisfying sex. But still we are often too scared to talk about sex and end up feeling either uncomfortable or dissatisfied. Why is it so hard to talk about sex?

Research shows that talking about sex can cause sharing private aspects of yourself or feeling negative emotions such as shame or embarrassment. Fears of rejection or hurting your partner by saying what you like in the bedroom whether you would like to try something new, also makes it hard to speak your feelings. Talking during sex is also a really important matter. Many may think that it would ,ruin the moment' but this just makes you able to experience more pleasure. There is also such thing as nonverbal communication such as moving a hand, slowing down or speeding up. This type of communication will not interfere with enjoyment or of sensuous contact.

By my own experience i know that trouble with talking about sex may also be caused by the society. If you live in one where sex education is a taboo and have nobody who can teach you, how are you supposed to talk about it when you even don not know what to talk about?

  1. People have problems talking about sex not just to their partners (where emotional issues are involved) but even to their doctors. They use euphemisms for body parts and sexual activity. Consequently, its not only their 'pleasure' that is at stake but their health as well.
