Why is sexual education so important?
Many people, especially in Poland, take sexual education as a taboo subject. The sexual education knowledge is on a really low and concerning level but no wonder, if young people’s parents do not often want to have a serious talk about it. But why is sexual education so important?
Many young people receive confusing information about relationships and sex while making a transition from a child to an adult. The lack of knowledge about age- and developmentally-appropriate sexual and relationship education may lead to dangerous sexual behaviours.
There are evidence on how sexual education has many advantages in lives of young adults. The first and most important one is that it increases young people's knowledge and improves their real attitude to sexual and reproductive health behaviours. The next one (which about many parents are concerned) says that sexual education (in or out of schools) does not increase sexual activity and the rate of risky behaviours causing STDs. Quite the contrary. It increases young people's knowledge about STDs, how they should always have protected sex and how easy it is to be infected or to infect someone. There also are programmes that help to reduce the frequency of number of sexual partners.
Having shown all the positives that sexual education brings and the cons that the lack of it causes, I want to make realise that sexual education is really important. It is most effective when young people have support from both the parents and the school. Not talking about it will not make young people not sexual but will just simply cause harm (by the lack of knowledge they need).

Remember the term is SEX EDUCATION.
OdpowiedzUsuńSex education looks different in different countries so maybe it would be good to define and describe the term a bit more precisely, comparing the syllabuses in various countries.
This reads like a manifesto promoting sex ed. It would be interesting to see where kids get their knowledge if they have little or no sex ed, what they learn and what consequences there are.
